When the long shirt tailored from one piece of linen got out of use, three types of shirt and three types of skirt took over its role in women`s folk costumes. In the beginninig, these types of shirt were not much different from the upper part of the previous long shirt, regarding their cut, whereas later on there were changes in their cut, material for making and the way of decoration. Their length was just below the waist, they were most often made of cotton, flax and other more sophisticated materials. These shirts were often embroidered with silk, decorated with floral embroidered ornaments, lace and gold needlework, depending on the regions and occasions. There were several types of them, with deeper square, oval and angular neckline, as well as the ones completely closed to the neck, which buttoned on the side of the shoulder in certain regions.
